No Surrender! (to the yellow team)

As part of David's Christmas, I believe it was, he was given some paintballing vouchers. So today we headed up to "Delta Force", near Houston, to take advantage of the generous gift. There were eight of us altogether: me, David, Karen, Bob, Kirsty, Steve (Bob's brother), Steve (Bob's brother's friend) and Dimitri.

The day dawned to gray skies and drizzle, which of course meant that Dimitri's face was tripping him fromn the kick-off, and by the time we got there it was raining quite steadily though not crazily so. We queued up to get our "protective equipment" which consisted of a helmet, a pair of black/gray overalls and an equipment belt. A small aside: If I go again I would definitely buy a pair of combat boots and maybe some overalls or fatigues of my own, this would allow you to change back into your "civvies" when you go back to the car park. I would also take some water or a scoosher etc so that I could give the dirty gear an initial clean before dumping in the car. Anyway, I digress....

We were each assigned to either the "purple" or "yellow" team: me, Karen, Kirsty and Dimitri were purple, the rest were yellow. For the duration of the day the purple and yellow teams would therefore be locked in a bitter struggle for domination of the various zones. The first zone "speedball" *cof cof* was pretty small and quick but I guess the idea was to get all the players, about 30 in each team, into the swing of things. The first things I noticed were:

1. It *can* hurt when the paintballs hit you (see the pics for evidence of this).
2. Keep low to the ground.
3. 100 "bullets" may seem like a lot but you can easily use more than this during a game.

Over the course of the day our team, the purple team, steadily worked its way into a lead, albeit slim, but we got pumped on the last map for the yellows to seemingly clinch the victory. However at the "award" ceremony at the end the yellow general admitted that his team had cheated, what a surprise, so the overall result was a draw. This flouting of the rules was no less than I expected from that bunch of reprobates that was the yellows!

The paintball finished and we headed back, tired and emotional, to David's house for showers, clean clothes etc. Me, David and Bob then headed to the pub for a well earned few brews (at this point I have to apologise to the punters who were frequenting the particular watering hole for the severe pungency of the "air-biscuit" that I released - I blame it on the barbecue we had at the paintball)

All in all though a good way was had by all!
